The Christ of Maratea is one of the biggest main attraction in
the Basilicata.
It stand out on the S.Biagio Mountains since
1965.
Stefano Rivetti di Valcervo financed the
place.
The Statue of Redeemer
is 22 metres tall
and arms span are
19.
It is second to alone to that of Rio de Janiero.
It is vertically
positioned to the
sea and
is visible at a notable
distance whether
the sea or inland.
At the opposite side of the Christ we find
the San Biagio Basilica, realized between
VI-VII century A.D. and enlarged on a number of occasions.
There you will find many works of art: Regia
Cappella (XVII cent) kept in a particular
sacred relic of San Biagio,
the Fresco of the Madonna del Melograno (XV
cent) and the precious bas-reliefs of marble.
Between the first and day in May festivities
are held in honour of S.Biagio, the patron
of the Saint of Maratea.
